The School Year Has Begun!

Well, students at SBS have begun the 2009-2010 school year! 3P has been very busy getting to know each other better and learning what it takes to be a "senior" of the school as a 3rd grader.

Students are already showing me how they can be respectful and responsible students. I'm proud of all the great decisions they're making and how they're such great role models for our 1st grade buddies.

Thanks for checking in!

We're On Our Way!

Another wonderful and memorable school year has come to an end! I had so much fun with my students in 3P this year. They have shown me that they are responsible and respectful students. I'll never forget all the memories we've made and the things we've learned since September. We had tons of fun, and lots of laughs. I think I'll be picking confetti from the "Clap Out" out of my hair for a long time!
I wish all of my students success in Lafayette in the fall. I know they'll learn so many new things, and make so many new friends over the next two years. But before Lafayette.....
SUMMER IS HERE!

Over the summer break, take the time to check in here on our blog. I would love to hear what you are doing, where you are going, what books you are reading, and how you're keeping cool this summer! I'll do my best to check the blog and post comments as they come in. If you'd like, you can even use this post as a Reading Log, responding to the books you're reading this summer.

No matter what, HAVE A GREAT SUMMER! Don't forget to keep in touch!

Field Day...FINALLY!

With the weather being so rainy these past few Fridays, Southern Boulevard finally had our Field Day today! Kids in all the grades got to participate in many types of games and activities that promoted healthiness and exercise. I was so proud of 3P when they worked together in the Rope Warrior activity, as they tried to get the whole class to run through together! That showed TEAMWORK! I loved how you showed SPORTSMANSHIP while you cheered each other on, and worked hard to help your team do their best!

I have so many memories of today, and I'm sure you do too....What was your favorite part of Field Day today? (Besides the ice pops!) Write about it!

So, How Was the Trip?

I don't think I'll ever forget this day at the Bronx Zoo! The weather was perfect and the zoo was amazing!

I had so much fun walking around and seeing all the awesome animals there! The Monorail was one of my favorite parts. We got to see elephants, rhinos, and the red panda! Did you see all the baby animals at the zoo? The gorillas in the Congo were WILD! When one of the large gorillas was near the glass, a girl waved to him AND HE WAVED BACK!! Walking through JungleWorld and seeing the fantastic animals made me feel like I was actually in a rainforest!

Every SBS student (and SBS teacher) I saw today had a huge smile on his or her face and wanted to tell me stories about the animals they visited. I would love to hear about your favorite part of the field trip....

Which animals were your favorite? Did you get to see all the animals that you wanted? What was your favorite exhibit or section of the zoo? If the Bronx Zoo could add one animal exhibit, what should it be?

Happy Earth Day!

Southern Boulevard School celebrated Earth Day today! We had a special demonstration of the watershed to show us how we can prevent pollution from entering our water supply. We also watched The Lorax on the big screen. That movie reminded us how we need to protect our natural resources like trees to keep our Earth and the environment clean. Yesterday in social studies, 3P and Mrs. Conti discussed how people all over the Earth need to protect the water supply from pollution, so we have enough clean water to drink.

What have you learned from this week's activities? What is the most important thing you've learned about protecting our environment?
Do you have any more suggestions on how to help keep our environment clean?
What will you do differently now that you've learned so much? What can you do at home to make your home more eco-friendly?

Winter, Spring, Summer, or Fall?

In the beginning of February, the Groundhog told us we'd have 6 more weeks of winter. With the big snowstorm on Monday, it looks as if he was right! The snow may be on the ground for now, but it won't stick around for long. We all know that spring is just around the corner.

Which do you prefer...winter or spring? Are you looking forward to the warmer weather in spring? Can't wait until things start getting greener around Chatham? Or, do you love wearing warm coats and fuzzy scarves to keep warm in the winter?

Leave a comment and tell me about your favorite season. Winter, spring, summer, fall....can you pick one, or do you love them ALL? Make sure to tell us why you love that season, or let us know some of your favorite things you like to do when that season comes around.

If I Were President...

Barack Obama will become our next president of the United States on January 20. He will have new responsibilites as President, and have many challenges as he takes office.

He will also have many priviledges as President...he gets to fly in his own airplane and helicopter. He may also decide to have a basketball court built in the White House!

If you were the new President of the United States, what would be the first thing that you do? Would you change anything about the White House? Is there anything that you would work for to improve in our country? Is there anything you would change about how schools are run?

Post a comment to share with your classmates!
