Happy Holidays!

Our holiday party today was so much fun! There was lots of great food, a really awesome craft, and we finished the day watching the GRINCH!

Now it's time for a little break from school. I hope you're all enjoying your time away. It's great to spend time with family and friends...and relax in the holiday spirit!

Here's your chance to check in with each other and report on what you're up to during the break. Let us all know how your Christmas is going. Are you traveling anywhere fun? Maybe you're looking forward to spending time with relatives. What are your plans for New Year's Eve? Do you plan on trying to stay up all night?

Have fun posting, and I'll see you in 2011!

Tell us about your favorite Reading Workshop book!

We're almost in our third month of school now, and I know you've enjoyed some great books. I've noticed how many great Reading Workshop books you're choosing because you're looking for Just Right Books and ones that will be interesting to you. Maybe you chose a book because of the author, or maybe you love a certain series, and you enjoy reading those books. If you're a fan of non-fiction, I know you like to choose books so you'll learn something new. No matter what, you're picking some great Reading Workshop books.
Make a comment on this post telling us about a great Reading Workshop book you've read so far this year. Which book was your favorite? Who was the author? Why did you pick it? Tell us at least two details about the book that made it your favorite Reading Workshop book so far this year!

Lafayette, Here We Come!

Another wonderful and memorable school year has come to an end! I had so much fun with my students in 3P this year. They have shown me that they are such responsible and respectful students. I'll never forget all the memories we've made and the things we've learned since September.

I wish all of my students success in Lafayette in the fall. I know they'll learn so many new things, and make many new friends over the next two years. But before Lafayette.....

SUMMER IS HERE!

Over the summer break, take the time to check in on our blog. I would love to hear what you are doing, where you are going, what books you are reading, and how you're keeping cool this summer! I'll do my best to check the blog and post comments as they come in. If you'd like, you can even use this post as a Reading Log, responding to the books you're reading this summer.

No matter what, HAVE A GREAT SUMMER! Don't forget to keep in touch!

So, how was the zoo?

So, what do you think of the Bronx Zoo?

I don't think I'll ever forget our trip to the Bronx Zoo! The weather was perfect and the zoo was amazing!

I had so much fun walking around and seeing all the awesome animals there! The Monorail was one of my favorite parts. We got to see elephants, rhinos, and the sleepy red panda! Did you see all the baby animals at the zoo? Especially the tigers and the giraffe!
The gorillas in the Congo were so much fun! When one of the large gorillas was near the glass, a girl waved to him AND HE WAVED BACK!! Walking through JungleWorld and seeing the fantastic animals made me feel like I was actually in a rainforest!

Every SBS student (and SBS teacher) I saw today had a huge smile on his or her face and wanted to tell me stories about the animals they visited. I would love to hear about your favorite part of the field trip....

Which animals were your favorite? Did you get to see all the animals that you wanted? Which animals didn't you see? What was your favorite exhibit or section of the zoo? If the Bronx Zoo could add one animal exhibit, what should it be?

Week of the NJASK!

We have been working so hard in class preparing for the NJASK. We have written so many stories, poem prompts, and reading passages and have learned so much in math this year! I am confident that students of 3P will do wonderfully on the test next week.

Leave a comment by letting us know how you are feeling about the NJASK. Are you nervous? Which section will be the toughest for you?

Let us know your thoughts and feelings!

Today is the Sesame Street character, Ernie's birthday! Sesame Street was one of my favorite childhood shows. Young children all over the world have learned how to read and count by watching Sesame Street. The show was where many famous characters like Big Bird, Oscar the Grouch, and Elmo have been created.

If you could create a television show for kids, what type of a show would it be? What is its name? What could kids learn by watching this show?

Like Ernie is a character on Sesame Street, what characters would you have on your show? You may want to include the monster you created a few months ago in class!

I am UNIQUE!

This week, 3P and our buddies in 1V will be kicking off our celebration of International Day at SBS by looking at the countries our relatives and ancestors were born in. After talking to our families, we've learned that we are very unique, in that we come from many different countries. Many of our parents and grandparents were even born in other countries! Having a diverse or special background makes each one of us UNIQUE! We are "one-of-a-kind" and we should celebrate our heritage!

Besides having a wonderful, international background, what else makes you unique? What is something that makes you special? Do you have a special talent? Do you have an interest that not many other people have? What makes you different from other people in a wonderful, special way?

We've Earned Our Marble Party!

After months of hard work and dedication, 3P has filled the marble jar! As you all know, our marble jar is called the "R Jar". The "R" stands for two words: Respect and Responsibility. Boys and girls in 3P have earned all of those marbles for being respectful and responsible in our classroom, in the halls, and in specials. Other teachers have also noticed your behavior and remind me how respectful and responsible you can be!

To fill the jar again, students will need to continue to act appropriately in class, and make good decisions throughout the day.

What are the best ways to earn marbles in class? What will you do to make sure our class keeps earning marbles and fills the jar again? When do you think 3P will fill the jar again?
Post a comment to answer these questions and give me your thoughts!
